Le Web 3

13. December 2006 – 21:33 by Carsten Pötter

The Le Web 3 conference in Paris this week had and still has both participants and bloggers criticising organisators for giving French presidential candidate Sarkozy a forum to speak in French to an international crowd of attendees. Other people’s presentations were cut short just to have Sarkozy speak there.

Reading comments and blog entries I can understand that people feel abused and are wondering what the real purpose of the conference was. Considering the backlash there is still something positive to learn from Le Web 3, I think: other conferences will not make the same mistake again. Politicians may speak at future tech conferences but just if they are announced on the program, they speak on topic and in a language that is accepted and understood by attendees.
