Will Amazon Launch a DRM Free Music Shop?

20. December 2006 – 20:19 by Carsten Pötter

There are rumours that Amazon will launch a MP3, DRM free music shop in the first quarter of 2007 (see coverage on Tailrank). According to the news Amazon has approached (major) labels and making clear that it will just sell DRM free music.

This sounds too good to be true. I really doubt that any major label will accept that their releases are sold without any DRM. That is their greatest fear.
On the other hand Amazon is big. Really big. Though is it big enough that majors cannot ignore the new shop and pass up a chance selling music to millions of Amazon customers?

We will have to wait until next year, I guess.
