PayPerPost Affects Tailrank

29. December 2006 – 23:14 by Carsten Pötter

Maybe you have read my previous blog post about Sproose. At the time of writing I was pretty sure I wouldn’t mention Sproose on this blog anymore. Well, maybe if they launched new and innovative features. Though I already have to mention them again. Why?

I stumbled across Sproose on Tailrank today and was interested because of the headline. Though I did not check the linking blogs thoroughly before surfing to Sproose. Well, I did later to check out what other bloggers thought about the company. And what a surprise.

At the time of writing this blog post there are nine blogs mentioned and all feature similar text. Some mention “This post sponsored by Sproose”, others have a headline “The following is a PayPerPost advertisement” while two blogs feature a Full Disclosure button or link. They take money for posting. There is only one blog not mentioning sponsorship. It is the last one on the Tailrank list.

I don’t mind if bloggers accept money for blog posts or use PayPerPost. They just have to disclose it. Though it makes me wonder that news which are completely sponsored hit Tailrank. I really like Tailrank. It is a great tool to track news and staying up to date. Hm, I don’t know what to really think about it.

  2. Thanks for the FYI…… We’re deploying more tools to check into this…..

In the mean time these blogs are going to be blacklisted unfortunately.

They need to be using nofollow links because our policy is not to index blogs that sell links.

This is part of the problem with being a more open system.

  3. I did not intend blogs to be blacklisted. However I understand your reasoning and there will certainly be more bloggers posting paid content in the future.

That’s exactly what I thought you can only do on this matter right now.
