Google Reader Link Blog

I use Bloglines as my RSS reader and think it is great. It has a simple design, is easy to use and provides all the functions I need. But many people were recommending Google Reader so I was testing it a few weeks ago to see if it could be an alternative to Bloglines. I think it is a good and respectable effort by Google but I prefer Bloglines’ way of displaying feeds.

Though what is really cool about Google Reader is its sharing option. Users can share and tag articles from feeds they are subscribed to and Google Reader creates a slick and publicly accessible link blog. It is a great way to show other people which articles are interesting, thought provoking, amusing,…

If you care, my link blog is here. I just use it since yesterday so don’t expect many articles yet. However I still prefer Bloglines so my dilemma is to use two RSS readers now. Stupid me.

  3. I prefer the Expanded View to the List View in Reader simply because it is the look which is most similar to Bloglines and also shows the content.

However things start getting confusing to me when I return from work and start Reader for the first time since maybe 16 hours and have more than 170 feeds to read or scan. Often it is not really obvious to me in which feed the remaining unread articles really are.
I like the Expanded View and marking items read when scrolling past them but it’s confusing. I always have to scroll the All Subscriptions pane up and down or change to List View.
In Bloglines it is plain obvious which feeds have unread items.

I don’t know if this makes sense to you. Maybe I am just too old already to change habits.
