Nostalgia Weekend
10. March 2007 – 15:07 byI think I have never mentioned here that I was listening to Hardcore Punk almost exclusively for about 10 years, from the mid-1980’s to 1995. Well, in the early 1990’s I was also listening to other music as well but Hardcore Punk was still dominant.
Those 10 years had been really educational, learning a lot of things about politics, animal rights, gender politics, alternative ways of living, and even straight edge. Though in later years I felt alienated a lot. Music and lyrics had become dull and repetitive; gigs seemed to be clichéd gatherings of we-know-it-all-we-are-the-best people. Also my way of living had changed and I couldn’t relate to it anymore. It seemed I had become a person I used to despise just a few years before: 9-5 job, money, middle class. So those years had also been years of disappointment, failure, and lost “friends”.
Though in recent months I have bought some albums which were either stolen at parties or I had sold many years ago (I didn’t sell all though, maybe 350-400 records). The power and energy of the music has grabbed my attention again and it brings back mostly good memories.
Yesterday I have got some new CD’s from Flight 13 mailorder; check them out if you’re into the music. Anyway I haven’t stopped listenig to music since. Oh yeah, I have been sleeping for six hours but apart from that I have not accomplished much. So it’s officially nostalgia weekend here at Not So Relevant HQ.
Quite emo, eh? Well, Rites of Spring are on the stereo now. ![]()

Rites of Spring? is that old pre-Fugazi crew?

Yes, kind of. Both Guy Picciotto and Brendan Canty have been in Rites of Spring. It’s the typical DC incest thingy.
