PassPack: New Features
11. March 2007 – 20:15 by
Online password manager PassPack is currently in beta 4. However at the moment there is just a preview available; it will be live next week, I guess. The new beta has some new features since I first mentioned it, of course.
Now password lists can be imported (CSV or tab separated), exported, backed up, and restored. So if you are running another password manager already, you can import those lists to PassPack. This will certainly turn some more people to PassPack who haven’t registered with it yet because they shyed away from manually importing their long password lists. Besides adding notes to entries they can also be tagged now.
Some more security features have been implemented:
- a password generator
- a user defined lock up time in case of inactivity; it is also possible to auto-save entries then
- indicator that new entries have to be saved yet
- a user defined welcome message which helps to prevent phishing (
this didn’t work for me, though)
The preview can be tested here. If you have an account already you have to create a new one for testing purposes.
PassPack has been worth checking out before the new beta and it is even more so now. I am sure the welcome message will work for me soon, too. I am probably just too dumb again.
Update: The new beta has already been launched today. Works smoothly. ![]()

Hello,
Tara here, from PassPack. Excellent article, you really manage to wrap up all the new features well. Thanks.
Can you tell me what didn’t work for you with the Welcome Message? Just drop me an email at tara-AT-passpack.com and we’ll look into it.
Cheers to you!

Hi Tara, it is working now. Though it is strange. Before I didn’t see any field to add a message. The page was blank.
Is caching the problem although I have signed in with a new account for the preview?
