New WordPress Stats Plugin

6. May 2007 – 23:12 by Carsten Pötter

The fine folks at WordPress Automattic have released a new statistics plugin for people who host their own WordPress installation. Well, actually it is not a new plugin rather the one bloggers on the WordPress.com platform already know.

If you want to use this plugin you have to provide your WordPress.com API Key which most people should have because Akismet is demanding it as well. Statistics are managed on WordPress.com, though. There is just a link from your Dashboard to WordPress.com where you can see the statistics. This might be a little strange, however it should reduce server load on your side.

I am curious which data it will provide and how it compares to other statistics tools I’m currently running. Below is a screenshot of the plugin shortly after installation.
