What’s Wrong with Yahoo?
13. June 2007 – 23:42 byIsn’t Yahoo one of the internet companies that are developing a Code of Conduct which should promote freedom of expression on the web? Then why do I think this is pretty much contrary to that plan?
Oh yeah, Flickr users from Germany (and Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore) can’t view moderated and restricted photos anymore; even if they have a pro account or if they actually shot those photos themselves.
Something’s wrong with Yahoo.

now that’s just stupid. Imagine uploading a photo and then being unable to view it. Who’d label it as “moderated” or “restricted” then (even if it should be).
i live in singapore btw.
but well, i’m not sure if the issue actually lies with yahoo or the govts of the countries you mention. Because even within my own country the govt is talking about censoring local blogs and stuff. They could/would put pressure on companies to force them to comply with their country’s censorship laws.

Yahoo says it has to comply with German law, or better about age verification laws. However age verification is usually not required if you don’t show pornography or nazi symbols. Yahoo’s decision is ridiculous. For a more comprehensive view of the Flickr/Yahoo dilemma see Franz Patzig’s excellent post.
