David Recordon on Open Platforms
15. November 2007 – 20:15 byThere have been some voices in the German blogosphere who were disappointed by the Web 2.0 Expo in Berlin held last week. Though seeing David Recordon’s presentation on open platforms I wish I could have managed to change my schedule and attend the conference. David talks about the importance of open standards like OAuth, OpenID, and microformats to build portable social networks. It’s a very good presentation, I think, because it clearly shows how those standards relate to each other. Recommended.
The slides of the presentation are up on Slideshare while Christian Scholz recorded a video of it. The video is available as Flash as well as Quicktime.

Well, the surrounding was not so great like food and places to sit and to network. All in all it was quite nice to go there though, esp. because of all the people you could meet there (actually I think the barcamp just before that was even better because there have been places to network and the sessions have been more participatory).
Some of the talks there have been somewhat basic but talks like this one and some others (including some keynotes) have been quite good and inspiring.
It indeed is a great talk for the reason you mentioned. I could also see the OpenID logo in quite some talks there which is probably a good sign.

Thanks a lot for shooting the video. I have seen the slides before the video and thought the presentation was really good, though the video certainly provides some deeper understanding of the matter.
