Identity Pages Don’t Have to Be Boring

19. December 2007 – 22:33 by Carsten Pötter

MyOpenID has added some cool new features to users’ identity pages yesterday. Usually those identity pages - if they exist at all - are rather boring and don’t add much value to both users and visitors. If you don’t remember the old identity page of MyOpenID check out this post and scroll down a little bit.

The nice folks at MyOpenID have not only re-designed those pages - there are even themes - but added support for both Pavatar and MicroID.

  • MicroID allows users to claim ownership of content they publish on the web. They simply have to add a hash code comprised of a communication URI such as an email address and the URI of a website to a website they run. Apps like ClaimID and Wink are able to consume MicroID.
MyOpenID publishes MicroID’s of confirmed email addresses. Don’t forget confirmation like I did last night, otherwise there won’t be any MicroID. Sometimes I am just…
  • Pavatar is a personal image which represents a user on the web, e.g. in blog comments. You might know Gravatar which is similar. Other websites can publish that image as well; if they ask nicely, of course.

It’s also possible to add links to other websites now, so those pages could become nice little personal reference pages, especially if you consider that they are marked up as hCards and support for OpenID Attribute Exchange has been added. Maybe even Marshall Kirkpatrick will be happier now. :)

Oh yeah, here’s my identity page:
