Saudi Arabia: Blogger Detained

30. December 2007 – 13:55 by Carsten Pötter

On December 10 Saudi blogger Fouad Ahmed al-Farhan was detained for still unknown reasons and his laptop confiscated. He could have been arrested because he has written about political prisoners on his blog; he was warned before the arrest. Mr al-Farhan could stay in jail for one month without seeing his family or a lawyer. According to his wife he will be charged then. This is against Saudi law. Hopefully Fouad Ahmed al-Farhan won’t face the same fate as Egyptian blogger Abdul Kareem who was sentenced to four years imprisonment.
