mymobile-ID: New German OpenID Provider
17. April 2008 – 09:00 byYesterday a new OpenID provider has been launched: German mymobile-ID. It is still in alpha and run by empulse, a small consulting and software company.
mymobile-ID uses a text message (=SMS) to verify new users. Though that service is just available to German users. That’s a little bit irritating because all text is in English on the website. Maybe it will open up for international users after alpha or beta testing. I don’t really know, though.
SREG is supported and login worked smoothly on the website I tested it. I can’t report much on more features. That’s probably too early as it has just been launched. However I don’t like the identity page. It looks rather empty:

Why myMOBILE-ID? Only because of the (one-time) SMS verification?

Good question. According to the empulse blog the provider should work as a prototype to identify use cases in combination with telecom services. Whatever that means.

looks like someone is eager to jump on the OpenID-train again for getting more attention.
Primarily not knowing in which direction the steam-train is heading right now, but nevertheless announced something “alpha” related to OpenID.
Anyway, a additional evidence that OpenID achives increasingly more relevance.

I entered a Danish mobile number (international notation, without the leading “ â€), and shortly after I received an sms with confirmation code.

Something or somebody ate the plus in the sentence »without the leading “$PLUSâ€Â« above…

Hm, strange. So the text on the frontpage - Account confirmation via SMS in Germany - should be changed.
